Mystery Shopping is a common tool
used by businesses in other parts of the world to
monitor, measure and improve their customer service
as well as to reward or recognize exemplar
employees. It is a type of market research where
individuals are paid to anonymously audit a business
against service and other standards. In mystery
shopping, shoppers (or Truth Sleuths as fondly refer
to them) act as ordinary customers on a
regular visit to the store and complete a short
questionnaire afterwards that documents their
experience.
The Truth Sleuths program

• Reveal shops – shoppers identify themselves and
present a prize to deserving staff

customer service numbers and call centres

shoppers with specific demographic profiles.

specified promotional time period
• Audio/visual shops – video and/or audio recorded
shops (where allowed).
